Caucasian Ovtcharka
Strength
and dignity, independence and distrust of the stranger, endurance
and low maintenance, the ability to think and act independently,
endless devotion, integrity and a zealous attitude towards their
territory – are some of the qualities that can be negative or
positive depending on the upbringing. One cannot demand more and
better from a four-legged friend. BUT. One should understand from
the beginning, that this is not a sweet teddy bear that the puppy
resembles, but a smart, shrewd baby, which at once determines his
place in the family’s hierarchy. He understands clearly his strength
and can hide his weaknesses perfectly. That is why a person who is
not ready to communicate with a Caucasian Shepard can be fooled by
the act of “soft simpleton”, which will turn into a leader in a
year.
It will be difficult for an owner to manage that leader. Unfortunately, people buying Caucasian Shepard rarely think about the fact that there is no way to subjugate this giant, whether by training, force or bribery. In a way the good qualities, mentioned beforehand, can play a negative role in certain situations. Caucasian Shepard is an aborigine dog that has absorbed centuries of traditions of the nations it has served. It has learned to listen and understand and demands the same from its new owners. TO LISTEN AND TO UNDERSTAND – it is difficult… in the beginning. But then becomes interesting as man begins to realize, what deep, ancient experiences are put into this beautiful, huge animal by our ancestors.
The requirements from the owner are as follows:
- rather big private territory (the dog will simply not survive in an apartment or it will stop being a Caucasian Shepard);
- patience and care at the times of communication, there should be many such moments every day because a puppy of the aborigine breed grows and develops in a pack which now is become his human family;
- 2-4 hours every day for walking of various terrain (just the territory will not be enough for the dog because of it’s simple curiosity), for physical exercise and mutual communication between both of you, otherwise Caucasian will find a moment to make of and run about by himself. |
